Parent Counselling

What is Parenting?

Parenting is a unique journey of learning, growing, changing, and adapting for both you and your child. Being a parent can also be as challenging as it is rewarding.

Parents are required to fulfill many different roles – teacher, mediator, first aider, housekeeper, cleaner, chauffeur and banker, just to name a few.

Parents also have to negotiate many other competing responsibilities and are often trying to strike a balance between family and work, all whilst trying to develop and maintain a strong relationship with their children. That’s a lot to expect from any one person!

How can Parent Counselling help?

As you are reading this page, we already know what a wonderful parent you are. Undoubtedly, there are many strengths that you already have in raising your kids, but at times parents can get stuck in the worries of “am I doing a good enough job?”.

Some of the challenges you may be experiencing with your children that we can provide support with include:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • School refusal
  • Bullying and self esteem
  • Screen time and social media issues
  • Difficulties with friendships and family relationships

Benefits of the Parent Support

Parents can often feel guilt or shame for many different reasons including cultural norms, social pressures and our own personal expectations and evaluation of our parenting

The benefits of receiving one on one support are that you are given the space to fully explore your family’s challenges and needs with an empathetic and non-judgmental counsellor.

Parenting support can be delivered in a six-session format with the option of booster sessions. Parents can attend individually or together; the choice is yours.

The sessions include psychoeducation, role plays and experimental exercises, film materials, handouts, and home activities, especially conversations between the parent and child.

Rob and Patty are experienced in delivering parent counselling support and are more than happy to provide support to you and your family. Both Counsellors are also happy to work with your young person if they are struggling and then feedback back tools to best support them.
