Women's Counselling

Individually tailored to your needs

A professional women's counselling service

There are many different issues unique to women which have the potential to damage your mental health if ignored.

As women are often caregivers (despite changing gender roles), it is important that their mental health is taken care of, because one cannot look after others well if they don’t take care of themselves.

Safe Place Therapy offers respectful and empowering women’s counselling, individually tailored to your needs, for every stage of your life.

What issues are unique to women?

Conception, miscarriage and infertility.

It is not uncommon for people to experience difficulty in conceiving, with some people turning to IVF for assistance.

Women are making the journey into motherhood at an older age than previous generations, with many women choosing to establish a stable career beforehand. Some women place an enormous amount of pressure on themselves to fall pregnant, often placing the blame on themselves.

Whether you’re dealing with difficulty falling pregnant, coming to terms with being childless or the grief of pregnancy loss, Safe Place Therapy have unbiased and sensitive counsellors to support you.

Pregnancy and motherhood

Pregnancy places an enormous strain on your body, with hormones continually fluctuating and your physical body changing before your eyes. While we’ve all heard about that natural pregnancy glow, the reality is that most women feel like their body is not their own anymore.

Post-natal depression is a common occurrence, affecting 1 in 7 new mothers in Australia, leaving women feeling hopeless and unable to enjoy their newborn baby.

Life as a new mum might not be what you expected, with the many competing demands of motherhood, it is normal to have difficulty adjusting.

Whatever your situation may be, our counsellors will help you to explore your concerns and assist you in coping with the transition of welcoming a new baby into your family.

Education and careers

Changing gender roles and the rise of equality means there are more women choosing to continue their education or establishing professional careers.

Although this is a much welcomed change, unfortunately sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace still occurs.

Our counsellors can provide a trusting, non-judgemental and safe place for you to unpack your experience and assist you in moving forward with your goals.

Family violence and relationship issues

In Australia, the definition of family violence includes emotional, financial and psychological abuse – not just physical abuse.

You might be confused about your situation and wondering if it constitutes as family violence, or you may be facing current issues in your relationship due to a past experience of family violence. It is not uncommon for past victims of abuse to have difficulty with trust, intimacy and vulnerability within a new relationship.

Codependency may also occur, often due to the loss of self-identity and the need to please. All of our counsellors are trauma-informed, culturally aware and ready to help you feel empowered, build self-confidence, gain assertiveness and take back control of your life.

Menopause and beyond

When children have grown up and left the family home, a lot of mothers are left feeling a bit lost. After many years of care giving and looking after others, they may have lost touch with who they are and might be left wondering, ‘What now?’

Safe Place Therapy can help you in rediscovering your sense of self. We can listen to your concerns, worries and fears, while helping you to discover your dreams, passions and purpose.

Whatever your situation, Safe Place Therapy can provide counsellors to assist you in moving forward with your life, in a safe, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
