Experience
Jo began her career as a mental health nurse and gained clinical experience working with young people experiencing a range of acute issues such as psychosis, bipolar affective disorder, complex trauma, and eating disorders. Jo maintains her mental health nurse credentials.
In the second stage of her career, Jo focussed on counselling and she completed a Masters of Family Therapy in 2016.
Family Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that seeks to improve relationships between members of the family. It is particularly helpful for young people who generally live at home in the family environment and where the family are best placed to support recovery. Family Therapy can also help adults to make sense of their current experiences in relation to their family of origin experiences.
Approach
Jo has a down to earth approach and prides herself on her ability to create a safe, supportive counselling space where people feel able to discuss difficult issues without fear of judgment. She works openly and collaboratively, continually seeking feedback from her clients as to how they are finding their sessions.
Jo draws from a number of different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Based Family Therapy, Emotion Focussed Therapy and Internal Family Systems. However, her approach is very much tailored to the individual, couple, or family.
Jo works with individuals from the age of 12 years old, parents and carers, couples and families.
Jo lives in Melbourne’s inner west and is a mum of 4.
